AUSTIN — Derek Fenton (discus) and Tyler Finke (shot put) both registered second-place finishes and Patrick Prince posted the fastest 110-meter hurdles time of the day to pace the UTSA men's track & field team on Friday at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Fenton recorded a career-best toss of 171-4 (52.22m) en route to his silver medal in the B section of the event and it was an improvement of more than five feet from his previous personal record. Purdue's Caleb Fricke topped the field of 15 throwers with his measurement of 175-1 (53.38m). Teammate Kelsey Benoit finished sixth with his mark of 162-9 (49.60m).
Meanwhile, Finke just missed his PR on his way to a runner-up performance in the B flight of the shot put. The senior from Celina registered a mark of 56-11 ¼ (17.37m) and that was less than two inches shy of the winning toss of 57-0 (17.37m) registered by South Dakota's Jacob Barents.
Prince topped the field of 41 high hurdlers with his wind-aided time of 13.79 in the preliminary heats. That marked his second career best in three weeks to open the outdoor campaign and he now stands second on the program's all-time performers chart. The sophomore from Conroe will enter Saturday's final with the nation's second-fastest clocking this season.
The distance medley relay of Luca Chatham, Mason Loiodice, Andrew Pirog and Monty Bertschy passed the baton in 10:00.14 en route to fifth place. LSU won the event in 9:46.61.
The four-day meet will conclude on Saturday.
