SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's women's tennis match against undefeated SIU Edwardsville was cancelled on Wednesday due to rain in the Alamo City.
SIUE (10-0) took an early 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point and all six singles contests were in the early stages before showers rolled into the UTSA Tennis Center. After a nearly two-hour delay, the teams decided to call the match with more precipitation expected throughout the evening.
The Cougars No. 3 doubles duo of Ann-Christine Link and Lara Tupper made quick work of Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari, 6-2, but Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas followed with a 6-4 triumph on center court against Mia Frogner and Tiffany Hollebeck to knot things up.
That put all eyes on the second court, where Lexi Aranda and Morgan Steffes outlasted Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina in a tibreaker, 7-6 (7-2).
All records from today's doubles matches will not count due to the cancellation.
With more rain in the forecast on Friday, the Roadrunners (6-6) have moved their tilt against 42nd-ranked Tulane (14-4) up two hours to 1 p.m. (originally scheduled for 3 p.m.).
