SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will make the short drive north to Austin for a 4 p.m. matchup on Wednesday at Texas.
The Roadrunners (9-11) are coming off a 3-2 weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational and the contest will mark a final tune-up before the start of Conference USA play this weekend at Marshall.
Bailee Baldwin led the offense last week with a .368 batting average, a triple, three home runs and seven RBIs. The big week pushed her season totals to a career-high five homers, which also is tied for the team-lead, and 13 RBIs. Angelica Niño had a strong week as well by hitting .429 to raise her average for the campaign to .306.
Overall, the offense continues to rank among the best in C-USA with a .314 batting average (2nd), .469 slugging percentage (2nd), 175 hits (2nd), six triples (2nd), 15 homers (3rd) and 88 RBIs (4th). Five players are hitting better than .300, led by Lindsey Stewart's .418 average.
In the circle, Lizzy Fox was the winning pitcher for all three victories last week to even her record at 7-7. The junior has posted a 2.89 ERA and she has walked just five batters in 65.1 innings.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns (11-9) are looking to snap a six-game losing streak that includes five losses to ranked opponents.
Texas dropped all three games at then-No. 6 Arizona last weekend, each of which came by three or fewer runs. The squad boasts a .295 average at the plate, led by Devon Tunning's .381 mark. Her six doubles and three homers also lead the way, while Bekah Alcozer's 15 RBIs are tops on the squad.
Tiarra Davis has seen the most work in the circle for the Longhorns at 39.2 frames. She also leads the way with 29 strikeouts, while Paige von Sprecken's 2.01 ERA and 3-1 record pace the staff. All five Texas hurlers have thrown at least 15 innings this spring.
Texas leads the all-time series 38-5-1. UTSA's last win in the series came on Feb. 12, 2014, in Austin when Nicole Merrill allowed a pair of unearned runs over seven innings to aid a 4-2 UTSA triumph.
