Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rallies past UTSA on Wednesday, 4-3

CORPUS CHRISTI — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rallied past UTSA by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners (9-8) jumped in front early by winning both completed doubles matches.

Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari defeated Alexandra Belle and Hortense Boscher by a score of 6-3 on the third court and that was followed by a 7-6 win by Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina against Louise Trigona and Marina Vicens Miquel at the second position in the lineup.

Judit Vives tied things up when she downed Tiwari in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) in the third spot in the singles lineup, but Hallgren put UTSA back in front with her 6-4, 6-0 triumph against Trigona at the No. 4 position.

The Islanders (11-2) evened the score when Maria Maldonado came off the fifth court with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Laura Cabrera, but the Birds went in front yet again when Miriam Rosell Canudas outlasted Boscher in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-0) on center court for her 17th win in as many dual-match outings this spring.

However, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi put an end to UTSA's three-match winning streak by winning the final two contests.

Vicens Miquel defeated Kylee Kato by scores of 7-6 (8-6) and 6-3 on court No. 6 and Jelena Dzinic rallied past Ibrahimovic at the second spot in the lineup, 4-6, 6-5, 7-6 (8-6) to give the Islanders their fifth consecutive triumph in the series.

UTSA will return to action next Friday, April 7, when it travels to New Mexico State (6-10) for a 1 p.m. (CT) match.
