Roadrunners to begin three-match road trip on Wednesday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will begin a three-match road trip to wrap up the regular season on Wednesday when it heads to the Coastal Bend to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First serve in the second meeting between the teams this season is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners (9-7), who last played all the back on March 16, head into the midweek affair riding a season-long three-match winning streak. UTSA downed Colorado State by a score of 5-2 in its last outing and that came on the heels of victories against Central Arkansas (4-1/March 12) and Prairie View A&M (7-0/March 11).

Miriam Rosell Canudas continues to pace the club with her perfect 16-0 record in dual-match singles play this spring. In fact, the senior from Torello, Spain, has dropped just two sets while playing at the top of the lineup during her final campaign. The three-time All-Conference USA performer dropped out of the ITA national tennis rankings last week, but she has played 10 contests this year while being ranked. Rosell Canudas peaked at No. 51 on Jan. 4 when she became the first ranked player in program history and she also spent time at 118th from Feb. 8-20 and 103rd from March 7-20.

Meanwhile, Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari have won a team-leading nine doubles matches, but Kylee Kato and Rosell Canudas are right behind with eight.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10-2) has won its last two matches and six of its last seven overall. The Islanders defeated McNeese State by a score of 5-2 in their last outing on March 24.

Maria Maldonado leads the squad with 10 singles wins, while the duo of Louise Trigona and Marina Vicens Miquel have racked up a team-leading seven doubles triumphs.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi leads the all-time series that dates back to the 2002 season, 9-5, on the strength of wins in eight of the past nine meetings, including a 4-2 victory back on Feb. 8. The Roadrunners last triumph came all the way back on March 12, 2014, in a 4-0 whitewashing in the Alamo City.
