BATON ROUGE, La. — Julie Houston and Aimee Ponte tied for 34th place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to 14th at this weekend's LSU Tigers Classic, which wrapped up on Sunday at the University Club (par 72/6,247 yards).
Houston led all Roadrunners on Sunday with a 1-over-par 73 that was highlighted by a trio of birdies. The sophomore from Allen finished at 10-over 226 after registering a 77 and a 76 in the first two rounds on Friday.
Meanwhile, Ponte fired a 2-over 74 in her final round that featured two of her eight birdies. The senior opened the 54-hole event with a pair of 76s on Friday en route to her 226.
Nikki Long posted a team-high nine birdies, including two as part of her final-round 76. The junior from San Antonio finished in a tie for 59th with a 234 (75-83-76).
Madison Kidd and Becky McGeehan rounded out the UTSA lineup in 76th (79-86-75—240) and 82nd (78-82-82—242), respectively.
The Roadrunners posted their best round of the tournament on Sunday with a 10-over 298. UTSA finished 14th with a 921, just one shot behind No. 50 Kentucky and 13 strokes in front of Tulane in the field that included eight nationally ranked teams.
No. 11 Duke claimed the team title with a 10-under 854, followed by 19th-ranked Oklahoma State (872), No. 15 Arkansas (873), No. 29 North Carolina State (880) and Denver (880) in the top five.
The nation's top-ranked player, Leona Maguire of Duke, won the individual crown with a 10-under 206 (67-68-71).
The Roadrunners will return to action on April 2-4 when they travel to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, for the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational.
