SAN ANTONIO — Winners of two of its last three matches, the UTSA men's tennis team will travel to Beaumont to face Lamar at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (5-13) will meet the Cardinals for the first time this season and 25th overall. UTSA owns a 22-2 advantage in the all-time series, but Lamar won the last meeting, 7-0, last year in Beaumont.
UTSA won two of its three matches last week during Spring Break, downing Cleveland State by a 6-1 count and Navy in a 5-2 triumph.
Takeru Watanabe won all three of his singles matches and a pair of doubles contests and was named Conference USA Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The sophomore from Japan leads the Roadrunners with seven wins during the dual-match season, while the doubles team of Fabian Brand and Igor Cantanhede own a team-best 6-5 doubles record.
Lamar brings a 10-6 record into a Friday afternoon match against Incarnate Word. The Cardinals have won four of their last five, including a 5-2 decision against UC Irvine on March 16. Juuso Laitinen leads the team with a 10-5 singles record, while the doubles tandem of Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Nikita Lis are 9-2 in doubles.
