SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA baseball team will return to the friendly confines of Roadrunner Field after an eight-game road swing to host Old Dominion for a three-game series that is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday.
In the second weekend of Conference USA action, UTSA (10-9, 1-2 C-USA) sits in a tie for seventh in the league standings. The Roadrunners own the second-best batting average in C-USA at .311 and they rank in the top five in nine offensive categories.
Coming off Tuesday's dominating 18-6 win at Houston Baptist, the Roadrunners offense is led by catcher Tony Beam. The Hutto native is batting a league third-best .407 and has registered 22 hits, including seven extra-base hits, with 13 runs scored, five RBIs and nine walks.
Meanwhile, UTSA will go with its usual weekend rotation of Nolan Trabanino, Tyler Giovanoni and Steven Dressler. Trabanino has accounted for four of the Roadrunners' wins and owns a 3.54 ERA in 28 innings of work.
Old Dominion makes the trek to Texas on its first official road trip of the season after playing all but one game at home. The Monarchs boast a league-best 17-4 overall record and sit in a three-way tie for first in the standings with a 3-0 mark.
Last weekend, the Monarchs became just the second C-USA team to sweep Rice since they joined the league in 2006. Old Dominion heads into the weekend riding a seven-game win streak.
Leading the way for the Monarchs is Vinnie Pasquantino, as the freshman is batting at a .400 clip and leads the team in hits (30), doubles (9), total bases (42) and slugging percentage (.560).
On the mound, left-hander Adam Bainbridge leads all starters on the pitching staff with a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings of action. He's struck out a staff-high 23 batters and has issued seven walks to own a 4-1 record.
UTSA leads the all-time series, 5-4, after taking the series win last year in Norfolk, Va.
