UTSA to host three-day Roadrunners Invitational this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's track & field program will be back in action this weekend when it hosts the Roadrunners Invitational at Park West Athletics Complex. It marks the second consecutive weekend that UTSA will be at home to open the outdoor campaign.

Athletes from Akron, Baylor, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and VCU will join the host Roadrunners at the three-day meet that is scheduled to get underway at noon on Thursday. Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and Saturday's full day of competition is scheduled for 11 a.m. Admission will be $5 on Saturday only (click here for complete meet information).

UTSA's track & field facility boasts the only Olympic-quality running surface in South Texas. Marked with wider lanes and enhanced subsurface support, the track was constructed to host national and international meets, as well as NCAA Championship events. The stadium currently includes 1,000 seats and a spacious state-of-the-art press box. Open areas surrounding the facility have been designed to house temporary seating up to 10,000 for national and international competitions.

The Roadrunners are coming off a successful opening weekend at the UTSA Invitational.

The men won four gold medals en route to the team title and Patrick Prince was tabbed Conference USA Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The sophomore from Conroe sped to the fourth-best performance in program history, a 13.88, en route to a gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles. It marked his second career victory in his specialty event and the mark was the second-fastest in the NCAA during the opening weekend of the outdoor season. Only Illinois' David Kendziera, who crossed the finish line in 13.73 at the UNLV Invitational, topped Prince.
