SAN ANTONIO — UTSA received winning performances from Luca Chatham (800m), Patrick Prince (110m hurdles) and Vasha Sheriff (400m) on Saturday and the Roadrunners won this weekend's season-opening UTSA Invitational.
Prince sped to the fourth-best performance in program history, a 13.88, en route to his gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles and it marked his second career victory in his specialty event.
Meanwhile, Chatham circled the Park West Athletics Complex oval two times in a career-best time of 1:51.53 in crossing the finish line first in the 800m. It was the first victory of his young career.
Sheriff clocked a 46.80 on his way to first place in the 400m and that now stands as the fourth-fastest performance in school annals. It, too, was the inaugural win of his career.
All told, the Roadrunners won four times in their opening meet of the outdoor campaign, as Victor Perez was victorious in the hammer on Friday (UTSA record 206-3/62.87m).
UTSA also picked up a total of five silver medals on Saturday, as All-American Ty Anderson (6-8 ¾/2.05m/high jump), Monty Bertschy (3:59.17/1,500m), Kelsey Benoit (PR 167-7/51.09m/discus), Barrett Brock (15-9/4.80m/pole vault) and its 1,600m relay (3:15.92) all placed second, while Davante Edwards (6-6 ¾/2.00m/high jump), Kaylon Sellers (45-4 ½/13.83m/triple jump) and the 400m relay (43.45) added bronze medals.
The Roadrunners (173) edged Purdue (168) by just five points for the team title, while Texas Tech (132) was third.
UTSA will return to action next weekend when it hosts the Roadrunners Invitational. The three-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, March 23.
