SAN ANTONIO — UTSA wrapped up the home portion of its spring schedule on Thursday with a 5-2 victory against Colorado State.
The Rams (4-8) picked up wins in two of the three doubles matches to go in front early.
Sandra Keta and Madison Porter handed Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari a 6-3 setback on the third court, but Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina drew the Roadrunners (9-7) even with their 6-4 win against Riley Reeves and Celine Voss.
That put the spotlight on center court, where the UTSA duo of Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas were unable to outlast the Colorado State tandem of Alyssa Grijalva and Emily Kolbow, who won in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2).
Needing to came out on top in four of the six singles contests to win their third consecutive match, the Roadrunners were victorious in five, despite four of the tilts going the distance.
Rosell Canudas, the nation's 103rd-ranked player, made quick work of Kolbow at the top spot in the lineup (6-1, 6-3) to draw UTSA even, but Reeves defeated Ibrahimovic on court two by scores of 2-6, 6-3 and 6-1 to put the Rams back in front.
It was all Roadrunners the rest of the way.
Kato got past Porter, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, at the sixth position, while Tiwari clinched the victory after outlasting Voss by a count of 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3 at the fourth slot.
Hallgren defeated Grijalva in three sets (6-0, 4-6, 6-3) on court No. 3 and Laura Cabera picked up the Birds' other triumph with her 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win against Keta at the fifth position.
Hallgren and Rosell Canudas were honored as part of Senior Day festivities prior to the contest.
UTSA now will take nearly two weeks off before returning to action at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-1). The Islanders downed the Roadrunners by a score of 4-2 back on Feb. 8.
