WACO — Lindsey Stewart went 3-for-4 for her ninth multi-hit game of the season, but No. 14 Baylor erased a 2-0 deficit with a seven-run fourth inning to rally for an 8-2 victory against UTSA on Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium.
The freshman pushed her average back up to a team-leading .398, while Kaley Pyles recorded a pair of hits for the Roadrunners (9-16), who closed out a 10-game road trip. Kylea Nix also picked up the first double of her career and scored a run.
Meanwhile, Gia Rodoni picked up the win to improve to 7-0 in the circle with two runs allowed over five innings with three strikeouts to pace the Lady Bears (23-4).
UTSA got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Nix got the frame started with a double to the gap in right-center field for the first extra-base hit of her career. Angelica Niño laid down a bunt and an error at third base trying to get Nix put runners on the corners with nobody out.
Stewart then put down another bunt that came to rest right on the chalk to load the bases. Rodoni nearly got out of the inning with a pair of outs, but Baldwin pushed a run across with a fielder's choice. The Lady Bears tried to get a force out at second to end the inning on Baldwin's hit, only to watch Stewart beat the throw to the bag.
Niño never stopped on the play and scored from second to give UTSA a 2-0 lead.
However, Baylor got a run in the third and seven in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game. The big hit of the inning came from Caitlin Charlton, who cleared the bases with a two-RBI single that was followed by a throwing error to help stake the Lady Bears out to an 8-2 cushion.
UTSA looked to cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth when it loaded the bases with just one out. Pyles singled to center field before Alyssa Cummings walked and Erica Sanchez grounded a single through the left side against reliever Kelsee Selman.
However, Selman got a pop out and a strikeout to end the threat and preserve the six-run lead.
Stewart opened the seventh with her third single of the night, but Selman got the next three Roadrunners batters out to close the contest.
UTSA will return home for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday against UAB (9-14, 2-1 C-USA).
