SAN ANTONIO — UTSA wrapped up a busy weekend with a 4-1 victory against former Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas.
The Roadrunners (8-7), who won their second consecutive outing, went out in front early by winning the doubles point.
Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari (UTSA) defeated Hee-Jin Oh and Marli Van Heerden by a count of 6-4 on court three, but the Sugar Bears duo of QiLi Ma and Rada Manataweewat responded with a 7-5 victory against Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina at the second position in the lineup. However, UTSA picked up the point when Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas came off center court with a 7-5 triumph against Pornpawee Pramethong and Amiru Shimoguchi.
Rosell Canudas extended the lead to 2-0 when she downed Pramethong in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). The nation's 103rd-ranked singles player improved to a perfect 15-0 with the victory.
Ibrahimovic followed a with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Oh on court No. 2, but Shimoguchi got Central Arkansas on the board with her 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Laura Cabrera at the fourth spot in the lineup.
However, Kato closed things out with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Manataweewat at the sixth position.
The Roadrunners will wrap up their four-match home stand and play their final home contest of the season at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, against Colorado State (4-6).
