Roadrunners post come-from-behind 4-3 victory at Texas State on Tuesday

SAN MARCOS — UTSA dropped the doubles point but then rallied for four consecutive wins to start singles play and the Roadrunners snapped a three-match losing streak with a 4-3 victory at I-35 rival Texas State on Tuesday.

Texas State (3-4) jumped on top early by winning two of the three doubles matches.

Pippa Carr and Ana Perez defeated Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina by a score of 6-2 at the second position in the lineup, but UTSA (5-4) countered with a 6-4 win on court three by Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari against Joy Chia Ming Ming and Julia Navajo-Melendez.

That set the stage for a deciding match for the opening point on center court and Eva Dench and Alex Jones held off Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas by a count of 7-5 to hand the Roadrunners' top double team its first loss in eight decisions this spring.

However, UTSA came out on fire in singles play and promptly won the first four completed tilts.

Rosell Canudas improved to a perfect 9-0 in dual matches this season with her 6-2, 6-1 victory against Dench at the top of the lineup and Hallgren followed with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph against Navajo-Melendez on court three.

The wins kept coming, as Ibrahimovic downed Carr in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) at the No. 2 spot and Kato clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Yadira Rubio on the sixth court.

The Bobcats won the remaining two contests, but, by then, it was too little, too late.

UTSA will wrap up its current six-match road trip this weekend with three contests in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Roadrunners will face Air Force (6-6) at 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday, followed by a 10:30 a.m. (CT) tilt against UMKC (3-6) the following day and a 9 a.m. (CT) match against Idaho State (2-2) on Sunday.
