SAN ANTONIO — UTSA look to close out the regular season with a pair of wins when the Roadrunners travel out east take on Charlotte on Thursday and Old Dominion on Saturday. Both contests will air on ESPN3.
The Roadrunners snapped a four-game losing skid this past Thursday with its win over FIU and then two days later dominated Florida Atlantic on Senior Day. San Antonio product Tesha Smith shined in her final game at the Convocation Center as she poured in a career-high 41 points and set the single-game scoring record, breaking a 30-year-old mark. Smith was 18-of-29 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. At week's end, she averaged 26.5 points and nine rebounds per game to earn Conference USA Player of the Week laurels.
Smith, along with junior guard Loryn Goodwin, continue to lead the Roadrunners offense as they both rank in the top-10 in the league leaderboards.
Overall, the Roadrunners are averaging 73.9 points per game in C-USA only contests and are outscoring opponents by a 4.2-point margin. On the glass, UTSA is grabbing 37.9 rebounds per game and rank third in steals per game with 8.5.
Charlotte heads into the weekend tied for fifth in the standings with Old Dominion at 10-6 in conference play. The 49ers are coming off an 89-75 victory over Marshall on Saturday, which snapped a four-game losing skid.
The 49ers are putting up a C-USA second best 73.8 points per game and outscoring opponents by a 6.9-point margin. Charlotte also leads the circuit in blocks (5.8 bpg) and assists (17.0 apg).
On the individual leaderboards, Grace Hunter tops the squad in scoring and rebounding. Hunter is averaging a C-USA eighth-best 16.9 points and a C-USA fourth-best 8.3 rebounds per game. She is firing 48.2 percent from the field, best for 15th, and adds 63 assists, 19 blocks and 23 steals.
Old Dominion welcomes UTSA on its Senior Day with a 15-12 overall record and 10-6 mark in the league. The Monarchs are coming off a 79-73 loss to WKU and are winners of three of its last five. ODU will host UTEP on Thursday prior to hosting the Roadrunners on Saturday.
Jennie Simms leads the Monarch charge with a NCAA second-best 25.3 points per game and is shooting 47.3 percent. Her 235 made field goals ranks fifth in the nation while her 158 made free throws is best for sixth.
