Roadrunners look to remain perfect when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to keep its perfect record to start the year intact when it hosts former Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday. First serve in the third contest in the Roadrunners' season-opening six-match home stand is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center and admission is free.

Food and T-shirts will be handed out to fans while supplies last in the doubleheader that is scheduled to be played simultaneously with the men.

UTSA won its second consecutive dual match to open the spring with a 7-0 home shutout of cross-town rival Incarnate Word on Sunday. The Roadrunners (2-0) did not drop a set in the two-hour, 11-minute contest.

Miriam Rosell Canudas, the nation's 51st-ranked ranked singles player, has opened her senior year with consecutive victories at the top spot in the lineup and she also has teamed up with Kylee Kato for a pair of wins at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Meanwhile, Laura Cabrera (No. 5), Kato (No. 6) and Charlene Tiwari (No. 4) also have come out on top in both their singles contests in the early going this season, while Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina are undefeated at the No. 2 doubles position.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will come to San Antonio with a perfect record of its own at 3-0. The Islanders shut out Prairie View A&M, 7-0, in their season opener back on Jan. 31 and that has been followed with a 6-1 triumph on Feb. 1 at UT Rio Grande Valley and last Saturday's 4-3 win at Houston.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi leads the all-time series that dates back to the 2002 season, 8-5, on the strength of wins in seven of the past eight meetings, including a pair of 4-0 shutouts on Feb. 10 (in San Antonio) and March 2 (in Corpus Christi) last year. The Roadrunners last victory came all the way back on March 12, 2014, in a 4-0 whitewashing in the Alamo City.
