SAN ANTONIO — UTSA won its second consecutive dual match to open the season with a 7-0 shutout of cross-town rival Incarnate Word on Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center. The Roadrunners (2-0) did not drop a set in the two-hour, 11-minute contest.
Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas got the whitewashing started with a 6-4 doubles victory against Rachel Sadiq and Matea Zemunik on center court. Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina then clinched the point with a 6-4 triumph of their own at the second spot in the lineup against Victoria Kareh and Sarah Savedra.
UTSA went on to win all six singles tilts in straight sets against the Cardinals (2-2), who were coming off two matches on Saturday.
Laura Cabrera got the parade started at the No. 5 position with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Alejandra Landaluce. Rosell Canudas, the nation's 51st-ranked player, then got past Zemunik at the No. 1 position, 6-1, 6-3, and Kato clinched the victory with her 6-1, 6-2 victory against Alejandra Tamayo at the sixth spot in the lineup.
The Roadrunners' other triumphs of the day came from Ibrahimovic on court two (6-2, 6-1 vs. Kareh), Charleen Tiwari at the fourth position (6-4, 6-1 vs. Savedra) and Lina Hallgren at the No. 3 slot (6-4, 6-1 vs. Sadiq).
The Roadrunners will continue their six-match home stand at 1 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-0).
