HOUSTON — Colorado rallied from three deficits and the Buffaloes topped UTSA by a score of 4-3 on Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University.
The Roadrunners (4-4) jumped in front early by winning two of the three doubles contests.
Denisa Ibrahimovic and Sonia Madroñal Medina defeated Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Ilana Oleynik by a score of 6-4 on the second court, but the Buffaloes (8-2) countered with a 6-4 win of their own at the third position where Nuria Ormeno Ruiz and Kyra Wojcik downed Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari.
However, UTSA secured the point when Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas outlasted Chloe Hule and Louise Ronaldson in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), on center court to improve to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
Colorado promptly tied things up when Andrinopoulos dispatched of Lina Hallgren in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, at the third singles spot, but Tiwari put the Birds back in front when she got past Oleynik on court six by scores of 6-3 and 7-5.
The Buffs once again responded, this time with Ronaldson's 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Ibrahimovic at the No. 2 spot, but Rosell Canudas put UTSA back in the lead when she came away with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup against Ormeno Ruiz. The senior from Torello, Spain, now is a perfect 8-0 this spring.
Unfortunately, that was the last win of the day for the Roadrunners, as Colorado came out on top at the Nos. 4-5 positions to pick up its fourth triumph in its last five outings.
Wojcik held off Kato in straight sets (6-4, 7-6 [7-2]) on court five to knot the score at three and Hule completed the comeback with her three-set win (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) against Laura Cabrera at the fourth position.
UTSA, which now has dropped three consecutive outings after winning four of its opening five contests, will continue its current six-match road trip on Tuesday when it travels to San Marcos to take on I-35 rival Texas State (3-3). First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
