UTSA back on the road to face FIU on Thursday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will spend the last half of its four-game road trip in the Sunshine State, beginning with a 6 p.m. (CT) matchup at FIU on Thursday.

The Roadrunners (11-16, 6-8 C-USA) can secure a bid to the Conference USA Tournament with a victory over the Panthers (6-21, 2-12 C-USA).

UTSA will look to snap a three-game skid after it dropped road contests at Rice and North Texas last weekend.

Freshmen Byron Frohnen and George Willborn III led the way in Saturday's setback against the Mean Green with 17 points apiece. Frohnen added 11 rebounds to his day to record his team-leading fourth double-double of the campaign. That ties Jeromie Hill (2010-11) for the second-most double-doubles by a freshman in UTSA history.

Meanwhile, The Panthers have lost six of their last seven games, including a pair of road losses last week at Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech. Donte McGill, who missed the first meeting with UTSA in January, leads the team at 19 points per game to rank fourth in the league, while Michael Kessens is the circuit's leading rebounder at 9.2 per outing. Kessens nearly averages a double-double with his 13.4 points and Eric Nottage also averages in double-figures at 11.4. FIU is shooting 45.1 percent this season on its way to 70.4 ppg, but its opponents have shot 46.3 percent and are averaging 74 points per contest.

FIU holds a slight 4-3 lead in the all-time series, but UTSA took a 57-55 victory against the Panthers back on Jan. 14. The Roadrunners also have won two of the three matchups in Miami.

Thursday's game can be heard live in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760 AM beginning with the pregame show at 5:30 p.m. (CT). Andy Everett will have the call.
