UTSA women to compete at this weekend's Armory Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's track & field team will return to action this weekend at the prestigious Armory Invitational in New York City.

The two-day meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday and action will resume at 7:45 a.m. (CT) the following day with a rolling schedule of events throughout both days (click here for the complete meet schedule). Athletes from 49 schools are scheduled to compete at the meet.

Shalise Borden won the weight throw, N'Dia Warren-Jacques registered a second-place performance in the shot put and Gabriyella Torres was runner up in the pentathlon, all with personal-best marks, to lead the Roadrunners at last weekend's Houston Invitational.

Borden topped the field of 27 shot putters with a toss of 56-5 ¾ (17.21m) for her first gold medal as a Roadrunner. The senior from Marana, Ariz., added nearly two-and-a-half feet to her previous career best, which came at the season-opening Texas A&M Team Invitational. She ranks third on the program's all-time performance chart and now stands eighth on this year's Conference USA leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Warren-Jacques picked up her silver medal with a season-long measurement of 47-7 ¾ (14.52m) on her sixth and final attempt of the day. The junior transfer from Texas ranks second on the program's all-time performance chart and sixth in the league standings.

Torres racked up a career-best 3,365 points in the five-event pentathlon, which was good for second place behind Sam Houston State's Baylee Lara, who captured the gold medal with 3,498 points. The sophomore from Port Isabel saw her score bolstered by a win in the high jump (5-4 ¼/1.63m), a second-place effort in the 60-meter hurdles (PR 9.21) and a career best in the shot put (29-8 ¾/9.06m). She improved her personal best by 101 points from last year's mark of 3,264 that came at the C-USA Championships. She ranks fourth in pentathlon and sixth in high jump in the circuit's standings.

Elesha Alyn sits in second in the C-USA rankings in triple jump with her mark of 40-7 (12.37m) that came at the season-opening Texas A&M Team Invitational.

Other Roadrunners that rank among the top eight in the conference include Jennifer Arinze, who stands seventh in the 400m (56.08), and Syd Howells (24.79) and Paige Patterson (56.10), who both rank eighth in the 200m and 400m, respectively.
