Roadrunners to return to action at this weekend's Armory Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's track & field team will return to action this weekend at the prestigious Armory Invitational in New York City.

The two-day meet is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. (CT) on Friday and action will resume at 8:10 a.m. (CT) the following day with a rolling schedule of events throughout both days (click here for the complete meet schedule). Athletes from 49 schools are scheduled to compete at the meet.

Adrian Riley finished in second place in the two-day heptathlon to lead the UTSA men's track & field team at last weekend's Houston Invitational and he was tabbed Conference USA Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Riley racked up league-leading 4,951 points in his first multi-event competition of the season en route to his silver medal. The junior from Kingston, Jamaica, saw his score bolstered by a day one victory in the 60 meters (7.19) and he was in second place after the first day of four events with 2,878 points. Houston's Nathaniel Mechler won the meet title with 5,376 points.

Other top performances for the Roadrunners from the weekend came from Byron Taylor in the long jump and Gabe Vargas in the shot put, as the pair both finished in fourth place in their respective events. Taylor broke the sand in 22-7 (6.88m), while Vargas recorded a measurement of 53-11 ¼ (16.44m).

In addition to Riley, two other Roadrunners sit atop the circuit's leaderboard.

Patrick Prince leads the 60m hurdles with his season-best time of 7.99 and Kelsey Benoit paces the shot put with his measurement of 57-9 ½ (17.61m).

Jacob McDaniel moved into the second place in the league heptathlon rankings with his score of 4,455 last weekend and he also is tied for fourth in the high jump (6-8/2.03m).

Meanwhile, Va-Sheku Sheriff remains in second place in the 400m (47.75), which came at the season-opening Texas A&M Team Invitational.

UTSA has seven other marks that rank among top five in the conference standings.
