SAN ANTONIO — North Texas rallied in the fourth quarter to eventually tie the game at the buzzer and went on to post a 58-55 comeback victory in overtime at UTSA on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Saturday's loss to North Texas marks the fourth straight loss for the Roadrunners and is now the longest losing skid for UTSA since mid-November. The Roadrunners fall to 11-14 overall and 7-7 in Conference USA.
Meanwhile, North Texas is on the move as the Mean Green have now won four consecutive and move to 11-14 on the season and 8-6 in the league.
UTSA was held to 37.9 percent shooting from the floor, including 3-of-10 from behind the arc, and was 8-of-14 from the free throw line.
Loryn Goodwin tied for a game-high 15 points and added four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Crystal Chidomere was the only other Roadrunner to score in double figures, as she netted 13 with three boards, four steals and an assist.
The Roadrunners' fourth-quarter woes continued Saturday against the Mean Green after UTSA held a 39-33 lead through three quarters of play. UTSA held NT to its lowest scoring frame of the season in the second, as they held the Mean Green to just five points to own a 26-16 advantage at the half.
North Texas changed its pace of game in the third quarter and outscored the Roadrunners 17-13. UTSA had to fend off the Mean Green offense on several occasions as the Roadrunners' lead dwindled down to one on two occasions. UTSA managed to end the third on a 5-0 run for the six-point cushion.
UTSA was outscored once again in the fourth. The Roadrunners held no more than an eight-point lead to start the fourth but was quickly erased on a 9-2 run by the Mean Green as they trailed by one at the 5:45 mark, 43-42.
The Roadrunners led by no more than four the rest of way and held a 51-48 advantage on a free throw shot by Goodwin with seven ticks on the clock. The UTSA defense shut down in the final seconds and the Mean Green's Candice Park hit a 3-pointer to tie the game and head into overtime.
The Roadrunners only managed to hit two shots in overtime with Goodwin's jumper that gave UTSA a 53-52 lead and Marie Benson's putback with 13 seconds remaining.
UTSA will return to the Convocation Center for its final two home games of the season when the Roadrunners host FIU on Thursday, Feb. 23, and Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Feb. 25.
