IRVING — Julie Houston and Nikki Long were named Conference USA Co-Players of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The UTSA duo tied for fourth place to help lead the Roadrunners to the team title at the this week's Texas State Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday in New Braunfels.
Houston opened with a 1-over-par 72 and followed with rounds of 73 and 76 en route to an 8-over 221. The sophomore from Allen wrote down a tournament-best 10 birdies during the 54-hole event en route to registering her fourth career top-five finish.
Long closed with a 74 to help UTSA rally past Texas State in the final round for the crown. The junior from San Antonio matched Houston's 72 in the first round and carded a 75 in the second. The fourth-place tie marked the fifth top-10 showing of her career.
UTSA made up a three-shot deficit to the host Bobcats over the final 18 holes en route to capturing the 12-year-old program's ninth team title — all won under ninth-year head coach Carrie Parnaby — and second in a little less than one year.
Houston now has four C-USA Player of the Week awards during her young career, while Long collected her second.
