SAN ANTONIO — UTSA got back on the winning track on Sunday with a 7-0 home shutout of UT Rio Grande Valley.
The Roadrunners (3-1) got on the board early by winning both completed doubles matches.
Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari blanked Dominique Ibarra and Amanda Guardia, 6-0, at the third spot in the lineup and Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas followed with a 6-4 triumph against Anastasia Belyaeva and Dominique Esparza on center court to clinch the point and run their record to a perfect 4-0 this season.
Kato pushed the lead to 2-0 when she came off the sixth singles court with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Guardia. Rosell Canudas, the nation's 118th-ranked player, pushed the advantage to three with her 6-2, 6-1 victory against Esparza at the top position. Rosell Canudas is unbeaten in her four contests this spring, while Kato now is a perfect 3-0.
Tiwari then clinched the team triumph with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) decision against Chloe Leclere at the fifth spot.
Meanwhile, Denisa Ibrahimovic defeated Marine Darzyan in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) and UTSA's other two wins of the afternoon came in third-set super-tiebreakers, as Laura Cabrera outlasted Ibarra, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5) and Hallgren held off Belyaeva, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
The Roadrunners won their seventh consecutive match against UTRGV (1-7), which dropped their seventh straight outing, and they now hold a commanding 18-2 lead in the all-time series.
UTSA will continue its home stand at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Feb. 18, when they host former Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin (2-2).
