LUBBOCK — Fabian Brand and Igor Cantanhede teamed up for their team-high fourth doubles victory of the season, but it was not enough in a 4-0 loss to Texas Tech on Friday afternoon at McLeod Tennis Center.
Brand and Cantanhede posted a 6-2 triumph over Carlos DiLaura and Pyry Hyrkkonen at No. 2 doubles to run their record to 4-2 in dual matches.
However, the Red Raiders (3-5) claimed victory in each of the other two doubles contests to snag the early 1-0 lead.
Connor Curry and Bjorn Thomson registered a 6-1 decision against Kai Breitbach and Axel Cronje at the top of the doubles lineup, and Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya paired up for a 6-2 win over Christian Carrillo and Juri Reckow at No. 3.
In singles, Sendegeya gave Texas Tech a 2-0 advantage when he swept Cronje, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 3.
DiLaura scored a 6-1, 6-3 win against Carrillo at the fifth spot and Curry ended the match when he beat Breitbach, 6-3, 6-0, on center court.
The Roadrunners (2-4) will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 18, when they face Louisiana-Lafayette (8-2).
