HOUSTON — Derek Fenton finished in fourth place in the shot put and added a sixth-place effort in the weight throw to lead the UTSA men's track & field team at Friday's Howie Ryan Invitational.
Fenton registered a measurement of 51-5 (15.61m) en route to his fourth-place performance in the field of 20 shot putters. Earlier in the day, the sophomore transfer from Texas recorded a toss of 52-2 (15.91m) in the weight throw.
The Roadrunners' other top-10 finish of the one-day meet came from Dario Johnson, who crossed the line seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.15.
Meanwhile, Jackson Brown just missed a spot in the 60m final when he finished with the ninth-fastest preliminary heats time (PR 7.05).
UTSA will begin postseason competition next weekend at the Conference USA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, Feb. 18.
