UTSA to continue home stand on Thursday against Southern Miss

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its four-game home stand at 7 p.m. on Thursday when it hosts Southern Miss at the Convocation Center. The contest can be seen on Spectrum Sports (channel 323 in Texas) with Kit McConnico (play-by-play) and Ken Moore (analyst) calling the action.

With a 10-13 mark overall and 5-5 record in Conference USA action, the Roadrunners are one of just five Division I teams to already double their win total from the 2015-16 season. The squad is coming off its first-ever win over UAB, the preseason league favorite, behind Jeff Beverly's career-high 32 points last Saturday. Lucas O'Brien also contributed a season-best 16 points, as UTSA racked up its most points against a league opponent in the 82-67 triumph.

Beverly's career-day came on the heels of a 21-point outing against league-leading Middle Tennessee as the junior averaged 26.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last week. The efforts pushed his team-leading scoring average to 16.5 points per game for the season and 18.3 during league play (5th C-USA).

Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles (7-16, 4-7 C-USA) will come to the Alamo City having lost four of their last five games and the squad is winless in 11 contests away from home this season. Southern Miss is coming off last Saturday's 64-47 setback against WKU. The squad is led by Quinton Campbell's 12.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Cortez Edwards is the only other player averaging in double-figures in scoring at 10.2. The team is averaging just 61.4 points, but it has upped that number to 62.8 during league action.

Thursday's contest will mark just the seventh all-time meeting between UTSA and Southern Miss with the Golden Eagles leading the all-time series, 4-2. Both teams have protected home court during the series, as Southern Miss has won all four games in Hattiesburg, Miss., including a 77-59 victory on Jan. 5, and UTSA has won the previous two games in San Antonio.

In addition to the television broadcast, the game an be heard live in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760 AM beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. Andy Everett (play-by-play) and Jim Goodman (analyst) will have the call.
