SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action this weekend with a pair of matches. The Roadrunners will make the trek north to face I-35 rival Texas State at 3 p.m. on Saturday before hosting Incarnate Word at 1 p.m. the following day.
UTSA (1-0) rallied for the doubles point and then held off McNeese State in several competitive singles contests for a 5-2 victory in last Saturday's home opener at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Texas State (2-0) opened the spring with last Sunday's home victory against McNeese State. The Bobcats edged the Cowgirls by a score of 4-3. They downed Prairie View A&M, 6-1, in a dual match played back on Oct. 29 in San Marcos.
Meanwhile, Incarnate Word (1-0) opened its campaign last Friday with a 6-1 victory against Prairie View A&M. The Cardinals will take on Division III No. 23 Trinity and Division II 37th-ranked St. Edward's in a doubleheader on Saturday before making the trek across the Alamo City to face the Roadrunners.
UTSA leads the all-time series with Texas State, 21-12, including last spring's 4-1 home victory on March 30. The Birds have won two of the past three meetings after dropping four straight from 2010-13.
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners have won all five previous matchups with the Cardinals, including last season's 6-1 home triumph on Jan. 31. Sunday will mark the fifth consecutive season that the two squads have met.
