UTSA to host UAB on Saturday afternoon

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its four-game home stand at 3 p.m. on Saturday when it will host UAB at the Convocation Center.

The Roadrunners (9-13, 4-5 C-USA) also will look to snap a four-game skid after seeing their nine-game home winning streak come to an end at the hands of league-leading Middle Tennessee on Thursday night. Jeff Beverly continued his scoring binge with 21 points for his seventh game of at least 20 this season. The junior is averaging 16.8 points (7th C-USA) during Conference USA action, while his seven rebounds during league play lead the squad.

UTSA held a 25-23 lead at halftime and held the Blue Raiders to just two points over a 12-minute stretch, but Middle Tennessee caught fire in the second half and shot 60 percent. Beverly scored 18 of his 21 points in the final 20 minutes.

The preseason pick to win Conference USA, the Blazers (14-9, 7-3 C-USA) were dealt a blow on the season's opening night when all-conference guard Nick Norton was lost for the campaign with an injury. Despite the setback, UAB remains in the hunt to defend its C-USA regular season crown with a 7-3 league mark.

William Lee leads a balanced offensive attack at 12.4 points per game to go along with a team-leading 6.8 rebounds per outing. Chris Cokley (12 ppg) and Dirk Williams (10 ppg) also average in double figures for the squad, which is averaging 74.1 points and shooting 47 percent during the campaign.

UAB has won all three previous meetings in the series, including a 65-57 triumph on Jan. 31, 2015, in the only other meeting in San Antonio. Last season, the Roadrunners fell 104-82 in Birmingham despite a school-record 10 3-pointers from J.R. Harris.

Saturday's game can be heard live in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760 AM beginning with the pregame show at 2:30 p.m. Andy Everett (play-by-play) and Jim Goodman (analyst) will have the call.
