UTSA to begin dual-match season with Saturday home matchup with McNeese State

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will begin its dual-match season with a Saturday home matchup with former Southland Conference foe McNeese State. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center and admission is free.

Saturday marks the first of 11 home matches for the Roadrunners this spring, their most since the 2013 campaign. In fact, UTSA will play six of its first seven contests within the friendly confines of the Alamo City before having a five-match home stand from March 9-16 during Spring Break.

McNeese State comes into the match with a 1-2 record in the early going this season. After opening the year with a 4-1 setback on Jan. 18 at Tulane, the Cowgirls bounced back for a 6-1 victory against Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 21 in Waco. That was followed by a 4-0 shutout at the hands of Baylor the following afternoon.

UTSA won five doubles matches at last weekend's season-opening Beach Winter Invitational. All five victories came on Saturday, which ended up being the only day of competition at the three-day tournament, as rain washed out action on both Friday and Sunday.

The Roadrunners lead the all-time series, 16-5, and they have won two of the past three matchups. However, the Cowgirls downed UTSA by a score of 5-2 last Feb. 20 in Lake Charles, La.
