Alyn paces Roadrunners at Saturday's Texas A&M Aggies Invitational

COLLEGE STATION — Elesha Alyn finished fourth in the triple jump to pace UTSA for the second consecutive week at Saturday's Texas A&M Aggies Invitational.

Alyn, the reigning Conference USA Co-Field Athlete of the Week, skipped to a measurement of 40-2 ¼ (12.25m) in the field of eight jumpers. Georgia's Keturah Orji captured the gold meal with her mark 45-9 ¼ (13.95m).

"I see my coaches as my parents and they are doing everything they can to instill greatness in me," Alyn said. "I try give all I have at every meet to make them proud."

Meanwhile, the 1,600-meter relay quartet of Chelsea Taylor, Paige Patterson, Sierra Andres and Jennifer Arinze passed the baton in 3:44.32, which now stands as the fourth-best time in program history. UTSA, which finished fifth in the meet's final event, moved into second place on the Conference USA leaderboard.

N'Dia Warren-Jacques recorded a toss of 46-11 ¾ (14.32m) en route to sixth-place in the shot put and it marked the second straight week that the junior transfer from Texas moved up the school's all-time performance list, as she now sits in second place.

Jennifer Arinze circled the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium banked oval twice in 56.08 on her way to eighth place in the 400m. Her career-best clocking was the fourth-best performance in program annals.

Two other Roadrunners also set new personal records.

Cierra Pena had an improvement in her seventh-place effort in the long jump with a mark of 17-11 ¾ (5.48m) and that topped last week's measurement of 17-11 ½ (5.47m). Colleen Gilbert also broke her previous PR (2:21.16) in the 800m by nearly four seconds (2:17.46) en route to ninth place.

"I was extremely happy with how we competed today," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox said. "Facing great competition, the team performed well and that bodes well as we prepare for next month's conference meet."

UTSA scored 16 points and finished in seventh place. Meet host Texas A&M easily won the team title with 184 points, while Georgia (121) and Texas Tech (95.5) rounded out the top three.

The Roadrunners will return to action next weekend at the Houston Invitational. The two-day meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, Jan. 27.
