UTSA to open three-game road trip on Saturday night at UTEP

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open a three-game road trip at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 when it travels west for a matchup against UTEP at the Don Haskins Center.

Winners of six of their last seven games, the Roadrunners (9-9, 4-1 C-USA) will look to climb above .500 for the season and continue their best start in Conference USA play. UTSA is coming off a 57-55 win over FIU last Saturday that extended its home winning streak to nine games, including 8-0 this season. Jeff Beverly led the way with 17 points, while Byron Frohnen notched his team-leading third double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.

The Roadrunners continue to show vast improvement on the defensive side of the ball, where they rank in the top five in C-USA and top 100 nationally in 3-point percentage defense (.322/2nd/79th), field goal percentage defense (.415/3rd/97th) and scoring defense (68.2/4th/87th).

Meanwhile, the Miners (4-13, 2-3 C-USA) snapped a 12-game losing streak last weekend with a pair of thrilling overtime victories against FIU (88-87/2OT) and Florida Atlantic (66-65/OT) at the Don Haskins Center. UTEP will look to make it three-straight victories at home and even its conference record at 3-3 when the Roadrunners come to town on Saturday. UTEP continues to lean heavily on its talented backcourt of Omega Harris (17.6 ppg) and Dominic Artis (15.1 ppg) and the duo has upped its game during C-USA play. Harris ranks third in scoring at 19.8 ppg, while Artis' 15.2 ppg rank 16th during league action.

Saturday's matchup will be the 13th all-time meeting between the teams. UTSA claimed a 67-55 win back on Jan. 1 to start C-USA play. The Roadrunners are in search of just their second win in El Paso and their first season sweep of the Miners.

Fans can catch all the action from the Don Haskins Center live in the San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM beginning with the pregame show at 7:30 p.m. CT. Andy Everett will have the call. The broadcast also can be heard live online at goUTSA.com or on your mobile device with the free iHeartRadio app.
