Goodwin, Kiejdrowska lead UTSA past I-35 rival Texas State on Thursday night

SAN ANTONIO — Loryn Goodwin and Kasia Kiejdrowska combined for 32 points to lead UTSA past I-35 rival Texas State, 72-47, on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

Goodwin scored a game-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds and seven assists on the night. Meanwhile, Kiejdrowska netted 12 points and was 4-of-7 from the floor and was one of two Roadrunners to be perfect at the charity stripe by going 3-of-3.

The Roadrunners' strong start Thursday night was on display early in the opening quarter after UTSA (3-5) outscored Texas State, 18-8. The Roadrunners held the Bobcats to just three field goals in the first quarter.

By the intermission, UTSA held a 34-18 advantage.

In the third quarter, the Roadrunners erupted for 20 points leaving the Bobcats (3-3) in the dust and led by as many as 25 points at the 1:08 mark on a triple by Carlie Heineman. The junior finished 3-of-7 from behind the arc for nine points.

Texas State was almost point-for-point in the final 10 minutes of play but faced its largest deficit of 27 points with 2:47 remaining on one of two free throws by Alexus Dukes.

UTSA shot 48.9 percent (23-of-47) from the field and was 21-of-32 from the free throw line.

The Bobcats were led by Taeler Deer as she put up 12 points and added seven boards and five steals.

The Roadrunners now lead the all-time series, 33-32.

UTSA will have a lengthy break before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 17, at No. 14 Texas (2-2). Tip=off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
