AUSTIN — Crystal Chidomere paced UTSA with a season-high 13 points, but No. 16 Texas handed the Roadrunners a 76-43 setback on Saturday evening at the Frank Erwin Center.
Chidomere was 6-of-16 from the field and she also grabbed four rebounds to go along with an assist, one block and a steal. Meanwhile, Tesha Smith netted nine points and added five rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Tasia Foman led Texas (5-4) with 14 points, while Kelsey Lang and Ariel Atkins chipped in with 11 and 10, respectively.
UTSA (3-6) got off to a slow start, as the Longhorns scored 11 unanswered points before the Roadrunners were on the board on a free throw by Loryn Goodwin. The junior guard scored four points, all in the first half, on free throws.
The Roadrunners then used a 6-0 run to cut Texas' lead in half with 2:21 left to play in the opening quarter on a jump shot by Billie Marlow that made it 14-7. Texas led 20-11 after the first stanza and held a 10-point advantage at the half, 33-23.
The Longhorns had their largest scoring quarter of the game in the third as they outscored UTSA, 28-13. Texas used a pair of 8-0 runs early in the frame and then ended the quarter on another to lead, 61-36.
In the fourth quarter, UTSA was held to its lowest scoring stanza, as the Roadrunners were held to just seven points, the lowest this season.
UTSA will return to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center for its final two non-conference games of the season when it hosts its annual Rae & Craig Blair Memorial Tournament from Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 19-20. The Roadrunners will take on Houston and Liberty.
