Former Roadrunner David Glasco II pens letter to this year's team

SAN ANTONIO — Former Roadrunner running back David Glasco II recently penned a letter to this year's football team from his new home in Lansing, Mich., where he currently is attending Western Michigan University's Cooley Law School.

Glasco II, a member of "The Original 18" redshirted in 2010 during UTSA's "practice season" before playing for the Roadrunners from 2011-14. The local product out Wagner High School finished his four-year career with 1,752 yards and he currently is the second-leading rusher in program history, while his 22 total touchdowns and 20 career rushing scores still remain atop the school's all-time charts.

Below is his letter that he is sharing with all of Roadrunners Nation.

It is currently 1:30 a.m. here in Lansing, Michigan. I am just now getting home from the library and must say that law school is not for the faint of heart. As I prepare myself to bring my second semester to a close, I see many people around me who are stressed out, tired and desperate due to the fact that one test can either make or break you here.

However, I am calm and at peace. Reason being is not only am I a firm believer that everything that happens in life happens for a reason, but also because I have prepared myself for these situations.

This is no different than being backed up in 2013 in the season opener at New Mexico and having to go down the field 99 yards and scoring a game-clinching touchdown to seal the deal (that really happened). Nor is it any different from waking up every morning during two-a-days and pushing myself at practice and being determined to be the best I can be.

As I left the library today, I noticed I was the last one walking out and this was also the case the day before. The security guards all know me by name and one of them even told me "You know, David, we have families too." As I apologized to him with a smirk on my face, I never fail to realize that the same work ethic I put into my football career at UTSA still sticks with me.

Truth is, young men, not all of you are going to play in the NFL, not all of you will be superstars during your time in San Antonio, but those things all have an expiration date as do many things in life.

The things that matter and are important are the habits you create now, the friendships you build, the competitiveness to make sure you are the absolute best that you can be but at the same time the wicked content of being only in competition with yourself.

I am extremely proud of this football team for becoming bowl eligible for the first time in school history. Your hard work and dedication is what has gotten you to this point.

Now, I challenge you to take it a step further and not be satisfied with this feat but discover what it is you can improve on and mature with. Talent can only take you so far. I am sorry to say that along the way you are going to have some rough days, some days you do not feel like getting out of bed, some days you will not feel like doing what you know needs to be done. But during these moments of adversity, I would ask that you dig down and remember the taste of victory and all that comes with it. Sacrifice.

I could go on forever writing, but I must retire now. After all, I do have to be in the library again in another six hours.

Win the day. Every day.

Sincerely,
David Glasco, RB,  2010-14
