SAN ANTONIO — UTSA officially earned its first invitation to a bowl game on Sunday, Dec. 4, when the Gildan New Mexico Bowl announced that Roadrunners will play New Mexico at noon (MT) on Saturday, Dec. 17, at University Stadium.
UTSA, only in its sixth season of play, matched the NCAA record for the fastest program to reach a bowl game with Sunday's announcement, equaling South Alabama (2014) and Georgia State (2015), who both earned bowl berths in their sixth campaign.
Now in its 11th year, the Gildan New Mexico Bowl traditionally has been the first bowl game of the season. The official bowl website is GildanNewMexicoBowl.com.
The following information has been compiled to assist fans who want to be part of UTSA's first trip to a bowl game.
Order Through UTSA
Tickets now are on sale through the UTSA Ticket Office and they are $40 to the general public and current UTSA students may order at a special rate of $25. The general public can click here now to place their orders, while current students can click here. Ticket orders also will be taken over the phone from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday by calling (210) 458-UTSA (8872). Fans and current student purchasing tickets now will receive the best possible seat locations assigned to them by Ticketmaster.
All fans that order bowl tickets through the UTSA Ticket Office will receive ONE (1) UTSA commemorative Gildan New Mexico Bowl T-shirt for every ticket purchased. T-shirts can be picked up along with your tickets and sizes will be distributed in a first-come, first-served manner.
If you pre-ordered tickets prior to the bowl announcement, your credit card was charged on Monday, Dec. 5, and your seat assigned based on loyalty points. Loyalty points were calculated as of Sept. 1 at the start of the 2016 season.
Buying bowl game tickets through the UTSA Ticket Office directly benefits UTSA Athletics by offsetting expenses the school will incur. While tickets may be available through the bowl game website or other avenues, buying through the UTSA Ticket Office demonstrates your support of the university. If Roadrunners fans buy tickets elsewhere, it is actually detrimental financially to UTSA even though you are there to support your team.
Buying through the UTSA Ticket Office also allows you to sit and enjoy the game with other Roadrunners fans in our sections.
Seat Assignments
Pre-orders were ranked by loyalty points for seat assignments. Loyalty points were calculated as of Sept. 1 at the start of the 2016 season.
All tickets now are being sold on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no limit to the number of tickets fans may request. Due to time constraints, notification of your seat assignment will occur when you receive your tickets.
Purchase & Donate Tickets To Military Personnel In New Mexico
There is another way that you can help support the Roadrunners even if you cannot make the trip to New Mexico. Fans can purchase bowl tickets through UTSA that will be donated to personnel at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque.
By purchasing tickets through UTSA, you are helping to financially support the football team, spirit squad and marching band's trips to the Gildan New Mexico Bowl and the tickets will be used by active duty and National Guard personnel next Saturday. You even will be eligible to get the commemorative bowl game T-shirts for each ticket purchased (arrangements will be made later this month to get your T-shirt to you.).
