SAN ANTONIO — Three Roadrunners scored in double figures in Friday's second game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic, but Northern Colorado defeated UTSA by a score of 73-66 at the Convocation Center.
Tesha Smith collected the team's first double-double of the season on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Smith was 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Meanwhile, Kasia Kiejdrowska scored in double figures for the second consecutive game with a season-high 17 points and added six rebounds, while Loryn Goodwin chipped in with 16 points.
UTSA (1-4) won the battle on the glass outrebounding Northern Colorado 37-34.
The Roadrunners second straight loss of the season saw UTSA trailing from the start. Northern Colorado (4-1) drew blood early and remained steady through the opening half as the Bears shot 42.9 percent (12-of-28).
UTSA battled back in the second quarter from its first-quarter 12-point deficit and cut Northern Colorado's lead down to three at the 1:50 mark on a shot by Marie Benson that made it 27-24. The Roadrunners headed into the locker room trailing 29-24.
Both teams played a tight third quarter that had the Roadrunners outscore the Bears 27-23 and back by one point at the end of the stanza, 52-51. UTSA was efficient shooting 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the field.
Kiejdrowska scored 11 of her 17 points in the third quarter on 3-of-3 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
In the fourth quarter, UTSA held its first lead of the contest in the opening minute after Goodwin went in for a layup to put the Roadrunners up 53-52 with 9:24 on the clock.
UNC quickly regained its lead and followed with a 10-3 run to lead 62-56 with 5:32 remaining and held off the Roadrunners the rest of the way.
Northern Colorado had four players reach double digits and were led by Savannah Scott's 26 points.
UTSA will close out its annual Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday when the Roadrunners take on Tulane (3-1) at 2 p.m.
