SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to the Convocation Center for a 7:30 p.m. matchup on Friday against I-35 rival Texas State.
Jeff Beverly leads the Roadrunners (1-4) offense and he ranks 11th in Conference USA with a 15.6 ppg scoring average. The junior forward has led the way in scoring three times, while he has netted at least 12 points in all five contests this season. Beverly is coming off his two best outings of the campaign with a season-high 21 points in UTSA's win over Prairie View A&M before he had 17 points in Tuesday's contest at Lamar.
Nick Allen picked up his second double-double of the season on Tuesday night when he finished with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The sophomore ranks fifth in C-USA with 8.0 rebounds per outing and his average of 3.0 offensive boards per game sits third in the circuit.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats (2-2) are paced by senior forward Kavin Gilder-Tilbury, who ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference at 20.0 ppg. Texas State returns a pair of starters and six letterwinners from last year's team that went 15-16. The Bobcats are coming off a 73-69 setback against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday night and both of the team's wins have come on a neutral floor. The squad has limited opponents to 65.5 ppg and 38.3 percent shooting.
UTSA leads the all-time series against Texas State, 33-24. The Roadrunners have played the Bobcats more than any other opponent except UT Arlington (66 meetings) and the teams were members of the Southland Conference (1991-2012) and Western Athletic Conference (2012-13) together.
Friday's game can be heard live in the San Antonio area on The Bull 92.5/93.3 FM beginning with the pregame show at 7 p.m. Andy Everett (play-by-play) and Jim Goodman (analyst) will have the call.
