UTSA back on the road to face Lamar on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will take to the road for the fourth time in its first five games for a 7 p.m matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 22 against former Southland Conference foe Lamar at the Montagne Center.

The Roadrunners (1-3) are coming off a 69-59 win over Prairie View A&M last Saturday in the team's home opener. Jeff Beverly and Byron Frohnen each logged season highs of 21 and 18 points, respectively, in the victory, which was the first for new head coach Steve Henson.

Beverly leads the team in scoring at 15.3 ppg and the junior forward has scored in double figures for all four contests this season. Meanwhile, Frohnen is not far behind at 10.3 ppg to go along with a team-leading 7.5 rpg. The Las Vegas native was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week on Monday after he averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game against Illinois-Chicago and Prairie View A&M.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals (2-1) are coming off a 1-1 road trip that included a win at Oregon State before a setback at Fresno State on Saturday. Picked to finish 12th in the Southland Conference, Lamar return three starters and seven letterwinners from last year's team that went 11-19. Forward Colton Weisbrod leads the team with a near double-double average of 13.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, while guard Nick Garth has averaged 10 ppg and is the squad's top 3-point shooter. The Cardinals, who also have gotten 10 ppg from forward Josh Nzeakor, are averaging 72.3 ppg.

Lamar leads the all-time series, 18-14, but the Roadrunners went 14-10 against the Cardinals when the two were together as members of the Southland from 1999-2012.

Tuesday's game can be seen on ESPN3 and can be heard live in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760 AM beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. Andy Everett will have the call.
