SAN ANTONIO — After picking up its first win of the season on Wednesday, the UTSA women's basketball team will look to make it two in a row on Sunday when the Roadrunners take on Oregon at 4 p.m. (CT).
The Roadrunners head into the weekend with its first win of the season on a 70-44 decision over Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday. Loryn Goodwin scored in double figures for the third time this season with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting and scored 21 of her points in the second half. The Roadrunners were efficient from the charity stripe as they went 11-of-13 (84 percent).
Goodwin leads the team and league with 24.3 points per game and is shooting 50 percent (24-of-48) from the field and adds 14 assists. Carlie Heineman chips in with 12.0 points a night and is 7-of-16 from 3-point range.
Defensively, Tesha Smith continues to lead the charge from last season as she's grabbed a team-high 24 rebounds, best for seventh in Conference USA, to average 8.0 a game. Smith is also shooting 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line.
Oregon welcomes UTSA at the Matthew Knight Arena for the first meeting in program history. The Ducks opened its 2016-17 campaign with Lamar on Nov. 13 and notched an 84-67 victory over the Cardinals.
The Ducks led the nation in 3-point shooting last season and continued that success as they went 12-of-25 against Lamar.
Lexi Bando led UO with 20 points in the season opener on 6-of-8 shooting, including 6-of-7 from behind the arc. In her debut as a Duck, freshman Sabrina Ionescu netted 11 points and grabbed five rebounds and committed a team-high four turnovers.
Oregon downed Cal State Bakersfield by a score of 77-62 on Friday night to improve to 2-0 this season.
