UTSA to open Conference USA Tournament play on Friday against Florida Atlantic

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will be in search of its second Conference USA Tournament title this weekend when the Roadrunners travel to Houston to face No. 5 seed Florida Atlantic in the opening round on Friday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.

UTSA wrapped up the regular season with a 19-7 overall record and tied for fourth in the standings with Rice and Florida Atlantic.

The Roadrunners hosted Florida Atlantic just two weeks ago at the Convocation Center for the sweep and since then have gone 2-1 with a split on the road with Charlotte and Rice.

UTSA remains steady in the league with the fifth-best hitting percentage of .242 but dropped to third in opponent hitting percentage, allowing opponents to hit .183. Dajana Boskovic continues to top the league with 4.78 kills per set, which also ranks seventh in the nation, and was recently recognized as a first team all-conference selection.

Joining Boskovic on the all-conference team was outside hitter Marijeta Runjic as she appeared on the second team for the second consecutive year. Runjic averages 2.99 kills per set for the Roadrunners with 13 service aces and 35 blocks.

Florida Atlantic heads to the Lone Star State in as many days with a 15-13 overall record and winners of its last two contests. On neutral grounds, the Owls are 2-2 this season and are led by first team all-conference honoree Maja Ristic. The senior is averaging a league fourth-best 3.60 kills per set and adds 0.36 aces per set, best for fifth.

Middle blocker Brianna Wojciakowski also helps the team's .226 hitting percentage with a .320 clip of her own. Wojciakowski is averaging 0.78 blocks per set with 1.64 kills per set. Genesis Viera also helps the team with a C-USA ninth-best 7.89 assists per set and adds 2.10 digs and 0.22 aces per frame.

The winner of this match-up will advance to the second round and face the winner between No. 1 WKU and No. 8 UTEP at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. The championship match is slated for Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse.
