CORVALLIS, Ore. — UTSA will continue its three-game road swing to start the 2016-17 season when it takes on Oregon State at 4 p.m. (CT) on Sunday at Gill Coliseum. The contest can be seen on the Pac-12 Network with Rich Burk and Dan Dickau calling the action.
The Roadrunners (0-1) will look to bounce back from a 69-66 setback at defending Mountain West Conference Champion Fresno State in their season opener on Friday night. Sophomore Nick Allen led UTSA with the first double-double of his career and he totaled career highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Jeff Beverly neared a double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Byron Frohnen made his collegiate debut with a double-dip of 11 points and 11 boards.
UTSA dominated the glass against the Bulldogs with a plus-25 rebound margin (55-30). The squad's 55 boards were its most since racking up a school-record 65 rebounds in 2008 and the Roadrunners pulled down 25 offensive boards that led to 25 second-chance points.
Four newcomers made their regular season debut for UTSA. Along with Frohnen and Beverly, freshmen Giovanni De Nicolao (11 pts, 3 ast) and George Willborn III (3 pts, 3 reb) also saw their first action in a Roadrunners uniform.
Meanwhile, the Beavers (1-0) started their 2016-17 campaign by defeating Prairie View A&M, 78-58, on Friday night. Sophomore forward Tres Tinkle, who was named to the preseason Julius Erving Award (nation's top small forward) watch list, recorded the second double-double of his career with 20 points and a career-best 15 boards. Oregon State shot 49 free throws in the win and it limited the Panthers to just 32.8 percent shooting.
Fans in the San Antonio area can listen to all the action from Gill Coliseum on Ticket 760 AM beginning with the pregame show at 3:30 p.m. (CT). Jay Howard will have the call. The broadcast also can be heard live online at goUTSA.com or on your mobile device with the free iHeartRadio app.
