FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Saul Vasquez paced the UTSA men's cross country team and the Roadrunners finished in 17th place at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional. The meet marked the end of the UTSA's campaign.
Vasquez circled the 10,000-meter Agri Park loop in 32:14.4 and the senior from Eagle Pass crossed the finish line 59th in the field of 142 runners in the final race of his career.
"I felt strong today," Vasquez said. "It was our first 10k of the season and I think we all competed well. I couldn't have asked for a better race to finish my cross country career."
Monty Bertschy (63rd/32:19.5), John von Dohlen (98th/33:15.9), Peter Sepulveda (107th/33:48.0) and Martin Luevano (110th/33:54.5) rounded out the Roadrunners' scoring contingent.
Tulane's Emmanuel Rotich won the individual title in 29:59.8
Sixth-ranked Arkansas won the team crown for the fourth consecutive year with 40 points and Texas earned the other automatic berth to next weekend's NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., after scoring 81, which was good for second place. UT Arlington (135), Texas A&M (150) and Baylor (170) rounded out the top five. UTSA scored 394 points en route to its 17th-place finish.
