FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Yulisa Abundis led the UTSA women's cross country team for the second time this fall and the Roadrunners finished in 19th place at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional. The meet marked the end of the UTSA's campaign.
Abundis, who paced the squad at the regional meet a year ago, covered the 6,000-meter Agri Park course in 22:42.4, which was good for 64th place in the field of 143 runners.
"It was a very competitive and tough day," Abundis said. "Individually, I ran a very consistent race and gave it my all. As a team, I thought we ran strong. It's exciting to see what we are going to accomplish in the upcoming years since we are young and we're building a strong, healthy team."
Emily Voss (92nd/23:27.5), Stephanie Sauceda (111th/24:00.6), Grace Kohler (120th/24:14.5) and Gabby Gonzales (126th/24:26.0) rounded out the Roadrunners' scoring contingent.
Led by individual champion Devin Clark (20:17.4), seventh-ranked Arkansas won the team title for the second consecutive season with 48 points and 25th-ranked Baylor earned the second berth at next weekend's NCAA Championships by virtue of its second-place performance with 62 points. Rice (93), Texas (108) and SMU (109) rounded out the top five. UTSA placed 19th with their 481 points.
