IRVING — John von Dohlen was one of six student-athletes that earned a spot on this year's InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Thursday. He is the first UTSA men's cross country student-athlete to be honored by the conference for his work in the classroom.
The junior from Goliad, who maintains a 3.94 GPA in marketing, has participated in four of the Roadrunners' five meets this season and his top finish of the campaign came back on Sept. 2 at the Aggie Opener in College Station when he placed 27th. He also has run at the Texas A&M Invitational (Sept. 24), Bronco Invitational (Oct. 15) and Conference USA Championships (Oct. 29) this fall. Von Dohlen earned a C-USA Academic Medal during the 2015-16 academic year and he is a two-time member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll in addition to being on UTSA's President's List.
Nominated and voted on by the league's sports information directors, eligible student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a regular participant on their team. Candidates must be a sophomore class standing, but redshirt freshmen are eligible if they have completed enough credits at their institution.
Von Dohlen and his Roadrunners teammates will return to action on Friday when they compete at the NCAA South Central Regional. The men's 10,000-meter race is scheduled for noon at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark.
