SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue postseason action on Friday morning when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA South Central Regional.
The men's 10,000-meter race is slated for a noon start at Agri Park and schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field of 200 athletes.
The Roadrunners will face competitors from 26 teams — Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Baylor, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, LSU, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Tulane and UT Arlington — in the race that precedes the NCAA Championships.
The top two teams, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing squad, will qualify for the national meet, which is scheduled for next Saturday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Monty Bertschy, Luca Chatham, Alex Cruz, Martin Luevano, Peter Sepulveda, Saul Vasquez and John von Dohlen are scheduled to compete for UTSA, which placed eighth at the Conference USA Championships.
Bertschy led the Roadrunners for the third consecutive outing at the league meet two weeks ago. The junior from Boerne circled the 8,000-meter Frank Liske Park loop in 25:49.2 en route to placing 27th in the field of 76 runners and he has paced the squad in all four meets he has participated in this fall.
