Roadrunners to compete at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to the course on Friday morning when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA South Central Regional.

The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at Agri Park and schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field of 183 athletes.

The Roadrunners will face participants from 24 teams — Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, Central Arkansas, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tulane and UT Arlington — in the race that precedes the NCAA Championships.

The top two teams, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing squad, will qualify for the national meet, which is scheduled for next Saturday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Yulisa Abundis, Sarah Estrada, Colleen Gilbert, Gabby Gonzales, Grace Kohler, Stephanie Sauceda and Emily Voss are scheduled to compete for UTSA, which is coming off a ninth-place performance at the Conference USA Championships.

Voss led the Roadrunners for the second time this season at the league meet two weeks ago. The sophomore from Katy covered the 5,000-meter Frank Liske Park trail in 18:46.6 en route to placing 39th in the field of 99 runners and it marked the second time in the team's past three outings that she paced the squad.
