UTSA to open Steve Henson era with Monday exhibition against Arkansas Tech

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open the Steve Henson era at 7 p.m. on Monday when it hosts Arkansas Tech at the Convocation Center in the team's only exhibition game. Admission is free for the contest.

Named the sixth head coach in program history back on April 1, Henson will make his debut on the Roadrunners bench. His squad features 17 student-athletes that includes 11 returners from last year's squad and six newcomers. Despite the graduation of 2015-16 leading scorer Ryan Bowie, UTSA will return nearly 70 percent of its offense from a season ago.

Monday's exhibition will serve as the team's only tune-up before the start of the 2016-17 season, which will begin on Friday, Nov. 11 when the team travels west for a matchup at Fresno State. The Roadrunners are 33-7 all-time in exhibition games with victories in each of their last 16 preseason contests.

Meanwhile, Arkansas Tech also will be playing in its first exhibition game of the season. The Division II squad from Russellville, Ark., returns just two players from last season's team that went 15-14 overall and finished seventh in the Great American Conference with a 10-12 league mark.

Monday's game can be heard live in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760 AM beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. Andy Everett (play-by-play) and Jim Goodman (analyst) will have the call. The broadcast also can be heard live online at goUTSA.com or on your mobile device with the free iHeartRadio app.
