Louisiana Tech sweeps UTSA on Sunday

RUSTON, La. — UTSA suffered its third sweep of the season Sunday afternoon as Louisiana Tech defeated the Roadrunners by scores of 25-16, 27-25 and 25-22 at the Thomas Assembly Center.

UTSA now drops to 16-6 overall and 7-3 in Conference USA, while Louisiana Tech improves to 12-15 on the season and 3-8 in league play.

Antonela Jularic and Marijeta Runjic were the only Roadrunners to reach double figures with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Amanda Gonzales started the last two sets for the Roadrunners and picked up her fifth double-double of the season with 31 assists and 12 digs. Meanwhile, Emily Ramirez notched a season-high 24 digs at the libero position.

For LA Tech, Marta Monne and Angela Papach led the offensive charge with 13 kills each.

UTSA's slow start was certainly on display in the opening set as Louisiana Tech topped the Roadrunners 25-16. UTSA was held to a -.125 hitting percentage and was plagued by 11 hitting errors alone. The Lady Techsters used an early 10-0 run after the score was tied at four before the Roadrunners could score once again.

Louisiana Tech continued with its strong game in the start of the second set as they begin the stanza 6-1 before UTSA went on an 8-0 run to lead 9-6. The Roadrunners managed to hold onto its lead until the very end when the home team took a timeout at the 22-18 mark.  The Lady Techsters then scored four in a row to tie the score at 22 and eventually pulled out a 27-25 win over the Roadrunners to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Lady Techsters completed the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third set. The frame played close the entire way but the home team rallied through for the win and its second straight win.

UTSA will return to the Convocation Center for its final two home matches of the season against Florida Atlantic on Friday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. and the home finale on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. against FIU.
