Roadrunners thump Texas A&M International in Friday exhibtion, 75-34

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA rolled past Texas A&M International by a score of 75-34 on Friday night at the Convocation Center in the first of two exhibition games to open the 2016-17 season.

Three Roadrunners reached double figures with Loryn Goodwin leading the charge with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting and added seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman Marie Benson added 12 points and seven rebounds while Carlie Heineman chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

UTSA shot 45 percent from the field on 31-of-69 shooting and outrebounded the Dustdevils 49-40. The Roadrunners also had the 16-2 upper hand in steals.

In the opening quarter, UTSA went on a 14-0 run before TAMIU could score its second set of points of the frame, 16-4. The Roadrunners led 20-7 at the end of the first 10 minutes of play and carried its momentum into the second quarter as they led 43-13 at the half.

The Roadrunners continued to extend its lead and led by as many 41 points in the third quarter at the 2:08 mark on a shot by Billie Marlow.

In the fourth quarter, the Dustdevils picked up the pace and brought the deficit down to 36 points with 6:09 left to play but the Roadrunners responded back and ended the contest on a 12-7 run.

Hannah Beede led TAMIU with 10 points and five rebounds.

UTSA will play its final tune-up game on Saturday, Nov. 5, against Trinity at 2 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
